CPD workshop
Free CPD workshops on chronic pain and psychological therapy
A free hour of CPD for pain professionals from any discipline. What modern psychological therapy looks like for chronic pain, and how to make sense of it in your own work.
The hour
What you’ll get from the hour
The workshop is a chance to step into the psychological side of chronic pain work without needing to be a psychologist yourself. You’ll come away with a clearer picture of what modern therapy for chronic pain actually does, how it’s changed in recent years, and how to talk about it with the patients you see.
Topics often include
- →How psychological therapy for chronic pain has changed, and what’s behind the shift
- →What modern therapy can and can’t help with
- →How to talk about therapy with patients who’ve already “tried CBT” without good results
- →Things people commonly misunderstand about pain and the nervous system
- →When and how to consider referring for psychological input alongside your own work
- →Validating pain seriously while still working towards change
The exact mix depends on the group. If you’re hosting one for a team, we can shape it around what’s most useful for your service.
Audience
Who it’s for
Anyone working with chronic pain in any discipline. Pain consultants and team members in pain services, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, GPs with a pain interest, mental health professionals working in physical health settings, and other therapists at this intersection.
No prior training in psychological therapy is needed. The workshops are written for a mixed audience and assume you know your own field well, not mine.

Why I’m offering this
Why I’m offering this
I work in private practice with adults whose mental health has become tangled with a chronic physical condition. Most of my clients have spent years in healthcare before reaching me, and most have been seen by professionals like you along the way.
I’ve worked with chronic pain and long-term conditions for years, much of that in NHS settings. Doing this work in private practice is the newer chapter, and I’m actively looking to build relationships and networks with other pain professionals across the UK.
A lot of what I do day-to-day translates back into the work you’re already doing. The aim of these workshops is to share what’s been useful from this side of the field, build informal links between clinicians who often see the same patients, and make it easier to think together about who would benefit from what.
There’s no charge and no sales pitch. If the hour is useful for your work, that’s enough.
About
About me
I’m Chris Hutchins-Joss, a BABCP-accredited psychological therapist. I’ve worked in mental health since 2010, much of that time within the NHS developing pathways for clients whose mental health was tangled with chronic physical illness. Alongside that, I spent over seven years contributing to a UK tech company’s digital mental health work, including peer-reviewed published research.
I now run an online private practice for adults living with chronic pain, long-term conditions, trauma, and health anxiety.
